Best Rising Stocks To Buy Right Now

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- I don't want to nitpick, but you have to work extremely hard to find any disparaging points about Exxon Mobil's (XOM) business, especially when the company is second only to Apple (AAPL) in the race to be the largest company in the world according to market cap.

As much in love as I have been with Chevron (CVX), Exxon has no rival when assessing its ability to convert oil and gas into cash flow and dividends. Not to mention, its impressive history of returns on capital. But the company has been far from flawless.

Lately, Exxon has been dealing with some operational deficiencies, which have worried investors. Not only has management dealt with rising costs, but also energy projects -- which have in the past generated strong returns -- have underperformed. And weak production growth, particularly in North America, has threatened the company's long-term status as an energy power.

What the Catch With MyEcheck Inc? According to various disclosures, transactions of $500 and $2k have or will occur to mention MyEcheck Inc in various investment newsletters. The most recent news for MyEcheck Inc is not so recent as it dates from last April and was an announcement that the company would license its proprietary system to other operators for a share of their transaction revenue on the system with the CEO pointing out: n addition to our processing revenue, we will have licensing revenue that will exceed our processing revenue in a relatively short period of time." However, a quick look at MyEcheck Inc financials reveals revenues of $3k (most recent reported quarter), zero, zero and zero for the past four quarters along with net income of $387k (most recent reported quarter) and net losses of $8k, $35k and $14k. At the end of last June, MyEcheck Inc had no cash to cover $804k in current liabilities. So maybe investor will want to wait for evidence of licensing and processing revenue to materialize.

5 Best Safest Stocks To Watch Right Now

Imagine how wonderful credit cards would be if they didn't charge interest. You'd get the safest way to pay, plus perks, extra consumer protections, and miles, points or cash back all for free -- unless you opted to pay an annual fee for extra services. For close to half of Americans, that's already a reality, because they never carry forward balances to the following month. The rest, probably a small majority, do sometimes, often or always have credit card debt. And they pay a high price.

Credit card rates today
According to the IndexCreditCards.comrates monitor, the average consumer non-rewards card was charging 15.48 percent APR in mid-August, while the same figure for a consumer rewards card was 17.83 percent. That "APR" stands for "annual percentage rate," and represents the actual yearly cost of borrowing over the entire term of a loan. So short-term loans can be less expensive than they sound. For example, if you borrow $100 for three months, the actual interest you'd pay at 17.83 percent APR would be just $4.38, according to one of this site's credit card calculators.

Murray Close, Warner Bros./AP From a major banking institution kicking off the new earnings season to the most-anticipated theme park debut of the year staging its grand opening, here are some things that will help shape the week that lies ahead on Wall Street. Monday -- Food for Thought The market's going to get off to a slow start on the news front. That's not a surprise given that it was closed Friday for Independence Day. One company that will be in the news on Monday is food and industrial products maker Penford (PENX). Penford's wide range of products include food ingredients, pet and animal products, sustainable bioproducts, starches for paper and packaging products and biofuels. Analysts see Penford earning 21 cents a share, but keep in mind that it has come up short against Wall Street expectations in each of the three previous quarters. Tuesday -- Harry Potter Central Florida will be a bit busier than usual on Tuesday when Comcast's (CMCSK) Universal Orlando has its grand opening of the new Diagon Alley expansion to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It's been a rough start. July 8 wasn't the opening date that the park originally wanted, judging by the fact that it had "The Tonight Show" and "Today" run weeklong tie-ins a few weeks ago. Conveniently for Comcast, it owns both the Universal theme parks and NBC. However, with the expansion's indoor coaster proving unreliable -- and even Universal pass holders being denied early access to attractions outside of the new Hogwarts Express train ride -- it could be an interesting debut. The crowds should be huge, the expectations lofty. Wednesday -- Mopping Up WD-40 (WDFC) reports on Wednesday afternoon. This is the company behind the multi-use lubricant. It also offers industrial cleaners, toilet sanitizers and other compounds. WD-40 didn't work out for its shareholders last time out. It posted better than expected 9 percent growth in revenue, but earnings fell just short of expectations. WD-4

Although there has been some strength in the mining sector lately, the overall trend for the space hasn been good. The industry has been hampered by low levels of demand, concerns about emerging markets, and a strong dollar which has pushed many investors out of commodities.

While this bearish outlook has manifested itself in silver and gold miners, a number of other segments have also been hit by this trend. In particular, the miscellaneous segmenthich includes firms that mine for items like uranium, rare earths, and palladium/platinumould also face weakness ahead, such as in the case of Cameco (CCJ).

Cameco in Focus

The Canadian-based firm is a relatively well-known name in the uranium mining space, operating several properties in the Saskatchewan province of Canada. The company also has a few locations in the U.S. Midwest, in addition to a Kazakhstani property as well.

On June 7, 2012, the Company acquired Casedhole Holdings, Inc. and its operating subsidiaries, including Casedhole Solutions, Inc.

Stimulation and Well Intervention Services

The Company's Stimulation and Well Intervention Services segment provides hydraulic fracturing and coiled tubing and other well intervention services, with a focus on complex, technically demanding well completions. The Company's customers use the Company's hydraulic fracturing services to enhance the production of oil and natural gas from formations with low permeability, which restricts the natural flow of hydrocarbons. Hydraulic fracturing involves pumping a fluid down a well casing or tubing at sufficient pressure to cause the underground producing formation to fracture, allowing the oil or natural gas to flow more freely. The Company's engineering staff also provides technical evaluation, job design and fluid recommendations for the Company's customers as an integral element of its fracturing service. Wireline Services

Equipment Manufacturing

The Company's Equipment Manufacturing segment constructs oilfield equipment, including hydraulic fracturing pumps, coiled tubing units, pressure pumping units and other equipment for the Company's Stimulation and Well Intervention Services and Wireline Services segments as well as for third-party customers in the energy services industry. This segment also provides equipment repair services and oilfield parts and supplies to the energy services industry and to meet the Company's own internal needs.

The Company competes with Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Weatherford International, RPC, Inc., Pumpco, an affiliate of Superior Energy Services, Frac Tech, Stewart & Stevenson, Enerflow Industries Inc., United Engines Manufacturing, Dragon Products and National Oilwell Varco, Inc.

Advisors' Opinion:

C&J Energy Services (CJES) grew more than 25% in 2012, after tripling in 2011, but has stalled in 2013 and will come in with near-zero growth. Part of the reason is the softening of oil prices and the shuttering marginal fields C&J Energy Services provides fracking-related oil field services on a spot basis with prices defined under long-term contracts.

C&J Energy Services (NYSE: CJES  )
One of the more interesting purchases this quarter is the $7.4 million Soros poured into C&J Energy Services. The oilfield service company specializes in complex well completions, making it an important company for extracting ever-harder-to-reach oil and gas. With operations spanning the most active shale plays, an investment in C&J is one that benefits as oil and gas companies drill more wells using even more complex hydraulic fracturing techniques.

Shares of Heartland Express have gained 50% this year, trumping the 38% rise in Con-Way (CNW) and the 29% advance in J.B. Hunt Transport Services (JBHT) but lagging Old Dominion Freight Lines (ODFL) and Swift Transportation (SWFT).

Con-Way (NYSE: CNW  ) , for example, sports a debt load about half of YRC's, yet pays only about one-third as much in interest on that debt. Wunderlich’s Nicholas Bender thinks FedEx’s results bode well for Old Dominion (ODFL), Con-way (CNW) and Saia (SAIA):

We expect all less-than-truckload carriers to benefit in 2Q14 from the same trends that carried FedEx Freight to a banner 4Q14. This includes Hold-rated Old Dominion, which will continue to grow at well above market rates, and Buy-rated Con-way, which we believe can leverage a strong 2Q14 to prime the pump on margin enhancement efforts. Our favorite name in the space remains Saia (SAIA-$42.92, Buy), which will once again see accelerating tonnage growth in 2Q14. Though tonnage growth will moderate in 2H14 due to steeper comps, there remains considerable potential for the company to boost yield and continue winning incremental business with new accounts.

Fusion-io (NYSE: FIO) shares were also up, gaining 23.11 percent to $11.43 after SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) announced its plans to buy Fusion-io for $11.25 per share in cash.

  • [By Christopher F. Davis]

Fusion IO (FIO) got absolutely obliterated yesterday (May 8th), down by as much as 27% to touch $13.13, after the company announced a major change in management. On Wall Street, it is common place for unexpected major management shifts to be an event that causes selling immediately, with questions asked later. On Wednesday, the stock closed down 18.9% on volume 15 times the average of 3 million shares that normally trade in a given day.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another technology player that looks ready to trigger a big breakout trade is Fusion-IO (FIO), which is a provider of data-centric computing solutions. This stock has been hammered by the bears so far in 2013, with shares off by 38%.

If you take a look at the chart for Fusion-IO, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending modestly over the last month, with shares moving higher from its low of $13.05 to its recent high of $14.78 a share. During that uptrend, shares of FIO have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of FIO within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in FIO if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $14.40 to $14.90 a share, and then once it takes out its 200-day moving average at $15.22 a share to more resistance at $15.50 to $16 with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 3.69 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then FIO will set up to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone from May that started near $19 a share. Shares of FIO could even tag $20 to $22 if that gap gets filled with strong upside volume flows.

Traders can look to buy FIO off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support levels at $13.55 to $13 a share. One could also buy FIO off strength once it takes out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Market Vectors Steel ETF (the Fund) seeks to replicate as closely as possible the price and yield performance of the NYSE Arca Steel Index (STEEL or the Index) by investing in a portfolio of securities that generally replicates STEEL. STEEL, calculated by the NYSE Alternext, is a modified market capitalization-weighted index consisting of publicly traded companies predominantly involved in the production of steel products or mining and processing of iron ore. The Index includes companies primarily involved in a variety of activities related to steel production, including the operation of manufacturing mills and fabrication of steel products. Companies eligible for inclusion in Index should be engaged in solar power and related products and services, deriving at least 66% of revenues from it with market cap exceeding $100 million, and should have three-month trading volume equal to or greater than $1 million per day. To begin with, Goldman Sachs says that thesupply-demand fundamentals for steel are starting to look more appealing as some supply has been taken out plus they have a very bearish view on input costs (as in iron ore)which bodes well for steel producers in the long run. Moreover, recently filed trade cases could provide some tailwindif they are successful.Of course a rising tide can lift all ships, but Goldman Sachs suggests that you go for the followingsmall cap or mid cap steel stocks:

Just after the craziness of tax season, you might expect H&R Block (NYSE: HRB  ) shares to be doing just fine. Instead, its stock slipped 2.5% after investors showed serious concerns with the number of tax returns the company has prepared this year. Flat year-over-year returns means H&R Block hasn't shown it can take market shares from ambitious and prevalent competition.

Of course, I’d also like to alert you to these big blue chips that have fallen in the eyes of the analyst community before they disappoint with their earnings reports.

Avon Products (AVP): In the past three months, analysts have slashed their estimates by 19%. Avon Products is expected to see sales fall 8.1% and earnings plunge 18.9%. AVP is a sell. Coach (COH): In the past three months, analysts have reduced their estimates by 11%. Coach is now headed towards a 1.1% drop in sales and an 8.9% drop in earnings. COH is a sell. Hess (HES): In the past three months, analysts have slashed their estimates by 19%. Hess is due to post a 75% year-on-year drop in sales and just 7.5% annual earnings growth. HES is a hold. H&R Block (HRB): In the past two months, analysts have slashed their estimates from a profit of 1 cent per share to a loss of 8 cents per share. HRB is a hold. Target (TGT): In the past two months, analysts have cut their estimates by 15%. Target is now expected to see sales retreat 2.8% over last year and earnings fall nearly 16%. TGT is a sell.

Now a lot can happen in the weeks between now and these earnings announcements, so there is a chance that some of these will firm up before then. However, in the meantime I see no reason to hold stocks that are underperforming their peers, especially when so many premium stocks are still on sale.

Avago Technologies Limited was founded in 2005 and is based in Singapore.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

Avago Technologies (AVGO) is another name that's starting to show signs of a top after rallying hard in the last year. Avago has actually doubled since last May, making the $16 billion name one of the best performers in the semiconductor space over that stretch of time. But a double-top setup in AVGO is drawing the line in the sand for downside risk.

Avago's double-top pattern looks just like it sounds: The bearish reversal pattern is formed by two swing highs that top out around the same price level. The sell signal comes on a breakdown below the intermediate low at $58. Like CMC, this is a conditional sell. Until shares fall through that price floor at $58, there isn't a signal here.

Why the significance at $58? Whenever you're looking at any technical price pattern, it's critical to keep buyers and sellers in mind. Shapes like double tops are a good way to quickly describe what's going on in a stock, but they're not the reason it's tradable. Instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.

That horizontal $58 support level in AVGO is the spot where there's previously been an excess of demand for shares; in other words, it's a price where buyers have been more eager to step in and buy shares at a lower price than sellers were to sell. That's what makes a breakdown below support so significant -- the move means that sellers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess demand at the at price level. So, if $58 gets taken out, you'll want to join sellers in unloading (or shorting) shares.

Getty Images/Joe Raedle Nelson Peltz doesn't want to wash down his Fritos with a Pepsi -- at least, not if they're both sold by the same company. His investment firm, Trian Fund Management, is a major shareholder in PepsiCo (PEP), which owns both of those brands, and he's pushing for it to separate its beverage business from its snack foods. The proposal cuts at the foundation of PepsiCo's business strategy, which revolves around the perceived synergies between its liquid offerings and its foodstuffs. Not surprisingly, the company has been swift to reject Peltz's idea in the strongest possible terms. But before we toss it out with the recycling, let's take a look to see if the proposal could be beneficial, or if it's really just so much flat soda. On its website, PepsiCo's lineup of products appears under the category "Brands You Love." Indeed, you'd be hard-pressed to fine someone who isn't a fan of at least one -- Pepsi, Tropicana, Lipton, Quaker Oats, Doritos, Fritos, Lay's and Ruffles, among many others. Synergy Among a Portfolio of Lovable Brands But Peltz argues the familiarity and renown of those products has not translated into meaningful returns lately. In a letter Trian sent PepsiCo, it said that under the reign of current CEO Indra Nooyi, the firm's growth in earnings per share "has significantly trailed that of peers." Trian argues that separating the two businesses would eliminate the overhead that comes from a sprawling corporate structure, and make each of the resultant companies leaner and more "entrepreneurial." A glance at recent history seems to indicate otherwise. Look at the arc of a recent snack food divorcee, Mondelez International (MDLZ). The company, which divested itself of what is now Kraft Foods Group (KRFT) in October 2012, saw fourth-quarter 2013 revenues of just under $9.5 billion. This was slightly lower than the result in the same quarter last year, its first as a stand-alone entity. Attributable net ballooned more than th

Dan Goodman/AP NEW YORK -- Jell-O has lost its jiggle and nobody knows how to fix it. The dessert was invented more than a century ago and helped popularize a delicacy reserved for the rich into a quick, affordable treat. Americans of all ages are familiar with the famous "J-E-L-L-O" jingle and TV ads featuring comedian Bill Cosby. Knocking back Jell-O shots made with alcohol is a college memory for many. Yet despite its enduring place in pop culture, sales have tumbled 19 percent in the past four years, with alternatives such as Greek yogurt surging in popularity. Executives at Kraft Foods (KRFT), which owns Jell-O, say they're confident they can revitalize the brand. But their efforts so far have been a disappointment. After years of marketing sugar-free Jell-O to dieters, for instance, Kraft last year launched an ad campaign that switched back to playing up the family angle. In one TV spot called "Comb Over," a man with the title hairdo tells his son how Jell-O makes up for life's troubles, such as being stuck in traffic. The visual gag is when the child imagines himself going through life with a comb over. "Kids thought it was hilarious," said Dan O'Leary, senior director of marketing for Kraft desserts. Declining Sales Unfortunately, it didn't get people in the mood to eat Jell-O. After showing signs of improvement for a couple years, Jell-O sales in the U.S. hit $932.5 million in 2009, reflecting box mixes and ready-to-eat cups of gelatins and puddings, according to market researcher Euromonitor International. But they've been declining ever since, and by last year, sales had seen a double-digit percentage drop to $753.8 million. Part of the problem is that people have become more finicky about what they eat. They're increasingly seeking out foods they think are natural or wholesome, and Jell-O's bright reds, greens and blues may inadvertently serve as warning signals to moms about the artificial dyes they contain. The second ingredient listed fo

Top 10 Food Companies To Invest In 2014

The Producer Price Index for finished goods increased by a seasonally adjusted 0.5% for May, according to a Labor Department report (link opens in PDF) released today.

After falling 0.7% in April, these newest numbers put index growth back in the black. Analysts had expected an increase, but their 0.2% estimate proved too conservative.

Source: bls.gov.

A deeper dive into the data reveals the extent to which volatile energy and food prices affected May's report. Food prices shot up a seasonally adjusted 0.6%, while energy prices jumped 1.3% after dropping 2.5% in April. Excluding these goods, producer price increases clocked in at 0.1%, matching analysts' predictions for that measure.

Moving back along the supply chain, prices for intermediate goods fell 0.1%, or 0.4% excluding food and energy. Industrial chemicals proved the primary culprit of cheaper prices, down 2.3%.

General MillsFrute Brute and Yummy Mummy will return to the shelves this fall with an updated look. The Mummy rises again. That would be Fruity Yummy Mummy, to be exact. The "monster cereal" was discontinued by General Mills back in 1992, but the company announced this week that it will bring it back for Halloween. Another discontinued cereal, Frute Brute, will also rise again for the first time since it left shelves back in 1982. They'll join three other monster cereals that still haunt the shelves: Frankenberry, Boo Berry and Count Chocula. (Count Chocula, like its namesake, is evidently immortal.) But all five will receive updated box art to reflect a more modern cartoon style than the original 1970s versions. (Think less "Superfriends," more "Frankenweenie.") For fans of the original look, though, we've got good news: Target (TGT) will exclusively carry "retro" packaging of the cereals, which are sure to become collector's items and flood eBay (EBAY) in the months to come. General Mills says the cereals will roll out select retailers "soon," with nationwide distribution coming in early September. Unfortunately, the company says it will be a "seasonal, limited time run," so we recommend stocking up if you find yourself falling in love with Fruit Brute all over again. Here's hoping that this starts a trend of General Mills (GIS), Post (POST) and other companies bringing back their old discontinued cereals. My favorite cereal growing up was Big Mix, which had raisins and panoply of grains, and whose mascot was some unholy creature combining the features of a moose, wolf, chicken and pig. And who could forget such discontinued classics as French Toast Crunch or Pop-Tarts Crunch? If you feel like taking a walk down memory lane, let us know in the comments which discontinued cereal you'd love to eat again.

Investment ideas are scarce and hard to come by at times. People constantly ask me about companies they work for (Bell) or businesses they purchase a lot of product from (P&G or Coca-Cola), and what I think about the prospects/valuation. When it is not the blue chips in the limelight it certainly is the Netflix,Tesla's, 3-D printing, and other companies I would classify as speculative. It is not that I am a Grinch, but I do not like giving out investment ideas. Rather, I attempt to give lessons. Tesco (TSCDY) has been selling well short of the price Warren Buffett paid last year. In November he paid some $18 a share and it now sells for less than $15 (a P/E less than 9). The remarkable thing is how unchanged the business is despite the sell-off. What catalyzed the sharp drop in price was comments by the CEO that earnings growth would be muted for 2012. But what Ie discovered, as Warren Buffett certainly has, is that the company is an exceptional business selling at a very attractive price.
